Spent 2.5 hours in the DMV getting the bike registered this morning, bought a full set of proper gear, and scrubbed the bike from end to end.
Hopped on the bike for my first proper ride, and got hit by a blowing thunderstorm 5 minutes into the drive. On the plus side, I now know riding in the rain is annoying but not that scary. On the down side, I am soaked. It is officially no pants o`clock.

Awesome, tell me more about what you learned as a first time rider/owner. Thinking of getting one myself.
That Tardis door is still awesome.
Do you feel like changing your username since Adam Sandler ruined your plural version?

First off take take a course to learn how to ride. It is both really helpful and will give you a chance to see if you like/hate it with minimal investment.
Believe the people who say to buy a used/cheap bike for your first bike. I managed to drop my bike before I even took it for its first proper ride(fell over trying to get it on the center stand). The scuffs on a $850 bike are no big deal, they would have been heartbreaking on a brand-new bike.
Riding is a shitton of fun.

And no, this has been my nickname for over 18 years. Adam Sandler can fuck right off.
I’m pretty sure that movie will quickly single into the swamp of unremembered crap about as fast as most of his movies.

Rain is an excellent reason to always wear your helmet. That shit hurts at even 30mph if it hits bare skin.
Glad you got a first ride in.

Yeah, I was wearing armored jeans and a mesh armored jacket, so the rain was going through the jacket and beating the hell out of me.

Yeah I second the “take a riding course” comment. Beat on someone else’s bikes and learn how to be confident on a bike doing low speed maneuvers. I learned how to do tight U-turns in very tight spaces within an hour because of the instructors. It was unfair though - I had a yamaha TW200 “big wheel” for a range bike. I LOVED hitting obstacles and junk on it and you could crank that throttle hard and still go nowhere fast. Not a very good bike for teaching how to meter out power.....
